Push to vaccinate care home staff against Covid as rates fall behind residents

Johnson hails ‘crucial milestone’ in getting jab to residents

Ministers were urged today to increase efforts to vaccinate care home staff after rates for workers were said to be lagging behind residents.

Boris Johnson celebrated last night the “crucial milestone” of offering a jab to every elderly care home resident by the deadline of the end of January.

“We said we would prioritise and protect care home residents, and that is exactly what we have done,” he said.

The number of jabs administered across the UK exceeded 500,000 in one day for the first time on Saturday. According to government records 598,389 people received their first dose on January 30 and 10,621 received their second dose.
